While Miyamoto always has some level of involvement in most of Nintendo’s output, it has been confirmed that his work on the recently announced Beijing 2008 Olympic Games tie-in will be relatively significant.

Speaking of the release, Nintendo of America Vice President Perrin Kaplan has been quoted as saying “I have to say that while, yes, Miyamoto does touch a lot of the products, it varies in terms of how much time he spends. The fact that we’re very publicly stating his involvement means that he will have more involvement than sort of the average game. It’s definitely something he will spend time with.”

Scheduled for a ‘holiday 2007’ launch, Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games features the old rivals together on one release for the first time in history.

It has also emerged that Sonic Team, who were behind the blue hedgehog’s recent 3D outings, will not be working on the Olympic Committee-licensed title, with the Sega sports team handling the game instead.
