Sony Computer Entertainment has announced that when PS3 system update 3.15 launches on December 17, the home console will be able to emulate games released in the PSP Minis range.
Sony states it is working on getting the majority of the current minis catalogue ready for December 17.
If you buy a minis game from the 17th it will work on both platforms so if you have a PS3 and a PSP you will only need to buy it once and it will be available to download to your PS3 and your PSP. If you’ve already bought a mini for PSP and want to get it on your PS3 as well, just go to your download list in the Store and download it again for free. The game will then work on your PS3 as well.
In addition to the PSP Minis emulator, update 3.15 will also introduce the ability to transfer data from one PS3 to another. The functionality appears to be of most use for gamers switching to a new PS3 console who wish to retain existing content such as games, save data (those without copy protection) and videos.
Further details on the data transfer functionality can be found on the PlayStation Blog.
