Minecraft will launch on Xbox One, PS4 and PS Vita in August, Mojang has announced.
As expected the PS4 and Xbox One versions will boast “significantly bigger worlds and a greater draw distance” than the PS3 and Xbox 360 counterparts. It will also be possible to import saves from previous gen versions, but not from next-gen to previous-gen.
Owners of the PS3 or Xbox 360 versions will also be able to upgrade to to the PS4 or Xbox One versions respectively for only $4.99. Xbox upgrades are valid from disc and digital versions, whilst PlayStation upgrades work only from the PSN version. Mojang says it’s currently working with Sony to enable upgrades from the Blu-ray.
All players will have at least a year to make the upgrade.
Alternatively you can pick up the standalone version for $19.99 on each of the three platforms.
The PS Vita Edition is actually classed as the Minecraft: PlayStation 3 + Vita Edition, and will be free if you already own the PS3 game.
DLC between PS3 and Vita will transfer across without issue, too, however some packs on PS3 and Xbox 360 may not be supported due to licensing deals.
