MindsEye, one of the biggest flops of 2025, has released a new trailer detailing its 2026 content roadmap. In a new ‘More Than It Seems’ trailer, the much-maligned, kind of open-world, sci-fi adventure developed by Build a Rocket Boy has offered an update on its future – something many players are likely surprised it even has.
The trailer is set to kick off a “new phase of ongoing development” as the game gears up for a comeback in what Mark Gerhard, CEO and CTO of Build a Rocket Boy, described as “a big step forward for MindsEye, and our studio.”
He went on to reveal that “New content is in development, and we’re committed to steady, meaningful progress.”
Improvements to the game will include fresh campaign optimizations, changes to AI behavior, and more. While this may be welcome news to those who purchased and enjoyed aspects of the game, is anyone really still playing in 2026?
“More than it seems”
MindsEye launched in June 2005, was woefully unfinished, being panned by critics, and it wasn’t long until stores were offering refunds to disgruntled players who bought into the hype, despite alarms about the game’s state being sounded well ahead of time.
The best part of MindsEye was the Build.MindsEye mode, something which allowed players on PC to have a lot of fun with their own creations. If anything should be expanded and built upon, it should be this. That’s because the game’s solo campaign will need a lot more than AI tweaks to become what it may once have had the potential to be.
The main question most people will have, though, is whether MindsEye is even worth salvaging in 2026, and whether there is an appetite for it from the players who didn’t request a refund.
If Build a Rocket Boy does manage to reverse the game’s fortunes, then it could be one of the most significant phoenix rising from the ashes moments in gaming history – but we’re not holding our breath.
