It’s been a fantastic year of video games so far. Clair Obscur Expedition 33 has been a marvel, Blue Prince has been a delight, and there’s more great games around the corner such as Death Stranding 2. While we have been blessed with a myriad of incredible experiences, unfortunately, MindsEye is not one of them. There was curiosity around the game due to it coming from ex-GTA lead, Leslie Benzies, but the unfortunate news is that MindsEye is such a technical disaster that PlayStation are even offering refunds.

PlayStation gives refunds for MindsEye

Sony are notoriously unflexible when it comes to refunds for games downloaded from the PSN store. Unlike Steam where you can typically refund a game so long as you have not played more than two-hours, with Sony you are usually only able to get a refund for something you have pre-ordered and have not preloaded/downloaded.

One of the most exceptional circumstances of Sony offering refunds was Cyberpunk 2077 with its disastrous, buggy launch in 2020. Now history seems to be repeating itself with MindsEye.

On the MindsEye subreddit, OP, MasterofMoogles1995, has shared an image of messages from PlayStation Support confirming the refund. The user asked for a refund because of the game not playing at 60FPS for PS5 Pro as “advertised on the official PlayStation launch trailer”. PlayStation Support responded, “It seems you are correct regarding optimization for this game. The situation is currently under investigation. But in the meantime, let’s proceed with your refund request”.

In addition to the above, another example of a refund comes courtesy of WolfgangMishima on X as cited by Insider Gaming. WolfgangMishima’s screenshot shows a PlayStation Support message reading, “Usually, we are not allowed to refund games that were downloaded because of the PlayStation Store cancellation policy. However, we understand that you are having issues with the game after the troubleshooting that you did and that you want to request a refund for it, so we’ll do an exception and process your refund as a goodwill gesture on your account”.

On the official MindsEye X account, patches have been shared but it’s unclear how much of an improvement they are. Across PS5, a lot of players have been sharing bizarre bugs and glitches, as well as complaints about the game frequently crashing.

Unfortunately, unlike Cyberpunk 2077 where there was an amazing game suffering from rough performance at launch, MindsEye doesn’t appear to have anywhere near the same level of quality. It’s a shame as there was anticipation from Grand Theft Auto fans due to it coming from Build A Rocket Boy, which is a new studio founded by former longtime GTA producer, Leslie Benzies.

Many were hoping MindsEye would be a great way to pass the time while waiting for GTA 6 to arrive in May of next year. While that doesn’t appear to be the case, the good news is that there are plenty of other exciting games set to come out between now and GTA 6.
