Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor will release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC on October 7, 2014, a new trailer for the game has revealed.

Pre-order customers will also be offered access to an exclusive Dark Ranger bonus pack, featuring a Dark Ranger character skin and a ‘Test of Power’ Challenge Mode, an exclusive mode that tasks players with defeating Sauron’s Captains to earn powerful Runes and gain a head start in the game.

Warner Bros.’ press release suggests that pre-ordering the game may be the only way to access in-game leaderboards, though, with the Dark Ranger pack also letting you “test your speed, skill and strategy and measure yourself against your friends on the leaderboards”.

Developed by F.E.A.R. creator Monolith Productions, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor puts players in the role of Talion, a slain ranger resurrected by a mysterious Spirit who must “discover the origin of the Rings of Power and confront the ultimate nemesis”.

It also features an innovative ‘Nemesis System’, an intriguing mechanic said to dynamically generate unique enemies and create an in-game hierarchy system based on the player’s actions. Expect it to be cut back somewhat on the 360 and PS3 versions, though.
