Microtransactions have been added to Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare, giving players the option to buy in game currency using real world money.

These in-game coins can then be used to purchase new character upgrade packs. You can of course earn coins through simply playing the game, but microtransactions make this process quicker if you are impatient.

“Now you have the choice to play your way; you can play to get new packs and content via earned coins in the game, or you can purchase coins to get more of the packs and content you want right away,” explained an EA blog post.

At first glance the core game and free content which has been released in the months since the game launched a few months back remains intact. Therefore, we don’t see a great issue with EA’s decision to implement microtransactions in this way.
