Microsoft Game Studios Vancouver is staffing up for development on an “AAA core” action console game, job listings for the studio have revealed.

The listings suggest that the console game could be a shooter, and include a “best in class networked gameplay experience and online services”.

One listing, for a Senior AI Engineer, asks for “7+ years of experience in building AI systems across multiple shipped titles especially in action or shooter games.”

Another, this time for a Lead Online Engineer, says that “experience shipping multiplayer action/shooter games highly desired”.

Co-op and User-Generated Content are also mentioned in the listings.

Meanwhile, another position suggests that the game could be built on Unreal Engine, stating that “experience with Unreal engine is desirable”.

It isn’t clear from the listings whether the game is targeted at Xbox 360 or a future Xbox console.

One listing, however, lists experience using DirectX10/DX11 as a plus point. Xbox 360’s architecture is built around DirectX9.

Microsoft Game Studios Vancouver was opened by Microsoft in 2010. The studio has previously developed free-to-play flight sim Microsoft Flight and had started work on canned children’s Kinect title ‘Project Columbia’.

In July 2012, however, it was reported that the studio had experienced lay-offs as a result of Microsoft Flight’s closure. At the time, Microsoft confirmed that the studio had “more projects and development in the pipeline”.

Microsoft has yet to formally announce Microsoft Vancouver’s next project.
