Worrying news for gamers hoping to get their hands on the Limited Edition version of Halo 3 – Microsoft appears to have acknowledged a problem with unreadable discs by offering irate gamers a free replacement via its website.

The offer, which runs until the end of 2007, asks gamers to allow two weeks for delivery of their replacement disc.

Following the launch of the blockbuster FPS in the US overnight, some gamers have reported scratched discs which appear to have been caused by the game coming loose from its plastic holder.

Microsoft’s Xbox disc replacement program now has a special note revealing that gamers can download and complete a form to get a working copy for free, with a minimum wait of two weeks. Other games covered by the program cost £10 to replace.

While the news will be worrying for UK gamers anxiously awaiting the release of the game at midnight tonight, there is no evidence as of yet of a systematic problem. There has already been some anger expressed by gamers who are unhappy at having to wait two weeks for a replacement of a game we gave 10-out-of-10 in our review.

You can download the replacement disc order form here.
