Microsoft has confirmed that its upcoming tablet PC ‘Surface’ will launch on October 26.

The October date means that Surface will ship the same day as Windows 8, Microsoft’s ‘catastrophic‘ new operating system.

“The next version of our operating system, Windows 8, will be generally available on October 26, 2012. At that time, we will begin selling the Surface, a series of Microsoft-designed and manufactured hardware devices,” said Microsoft, reported by CNET.

According to CNET, however, only the lower-specced RT models will launch on October 26. The Surface Pro is expected to launch 90 days later.

Surface is Microsoft’s answer to iPad that features a 10.6″ HD display and access to the firm’s upcoming Windows Store.

The Surface Pro is also capable of running Windows executables, allowing for a “full Windows” experience.

A price for either version has yet to be announced.
