Microsoft has announced the latest development in its XNA development environment. Their latest product, XNA Studio, is based on their own Visual Studio Development system. The XNA platform was first announced at last years GDC, where a number of demos where shown to demonstrate what could be achieved – in a short time – when using XNA.

“The productivity gain from Microsoft’s collaboration and build tools has already been proved for programmers, so the opportunity to bring the same process and technology to content creation is huge,” said Marc Petit, vice president of Product Development for Discreet. “XNA Studio can have a clear impact on the business of making games and will likely emerge as a differentiating force in game development.”

It is clear that Microsoft think that XNA is an important tool in next generation game development. Perhaps we will see the first games made using XNA at E3 in May.
