Microsoft has released an official Kinect for Windows software development kit download.

According to Major Nelson’s blog, the download will include drivers, APIs, device interfaces, installer documents, and resource materials.

Additionally the software will allow for skeleton tracking, to “make it easy to create gesture-driven applications”.

The SDK is said to enable “the academic and enthusiast communities easy access to the capabilities offered by the Microsoft Kinect device connected to computers running the Windows 7 operating system.”

The Kinect for Windows beta is available on the official Microsoft Research website.

This new software development kit could mean that users might soon be able to control Windows on their PC with their own movements.
