Microsoft has launched the rumoured on-contract Xbox 360 in the US, offering a 4GB console and Kinect for an upfront cost of only $99.
In addition you’ll be tied down to a 24 month contract of $14.99 each month for Xbox LIVE Gold.
In all you’d be paying around $40 more than buying the console, Kinect and LIVE sub outright.
The pay monthly offer is currently only available from Microsoft’s stores, of which there are only 21 in the US.
Mobile phones sell millions of units thanks to the contract model and a successful trial in Microsoft’s stores could see a much larger scale roll-out for the $99 Xbox 360.
