2015 may have had the “greatest games lineup in Xbox history”, but 2016’s lineup could be even better, according to Microsoft’s marketing exec Yusuf Mehdi.

Teasing Xbox One’s 2016 lineup at the Credit Suisse Technology Conference in Arizona yesterday, Mehdi explained that “gaming has been a pretty big success case” for Microsoft, and that it “had probably [had] the best year we’ve ever had for Xbox” in 2015.

“And it’s on the back of the greatest games lineup in Xbox history,” he said. “So if you like to game, this is the year to get an Xbox. We have Halo 5 launching. We have Minecraft on Xbox. We have Gears of War, Tomb Raider. The best lineup; next year will also be the best lineup.”

Microsoft has often referred to this year’s Xbox One lineup as “the greatest games lineup in Xbox history”, highlighting Halo 5, Forza Motorsport 6, Gears of War Ultimate Edition and Rise of the Tomb Raider as some of the best titles the platform holder has ever released in a single year.

And it has already confirmed multiple major Xbox exclusives for release next year, too, including Quantum Break, Gears of War 4, Halo Wars 2, Crackdown 3, Scalebound, and Recore. Rare’s seafaring online title Sea of Thieves may also release next year, as could a new entry in the Forza Horizon series.

But it’ll face strong competition from Sony, which has already announced Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Street Fighter V, Horizon: Zero Dawn, No Man’s Sky, Ratchet & Clank and the highly anticipated The Last Guardian for release on PS4 in 2016.

Other multiplatform highlights for 2016 include Dark Souls 3, The Division, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst, Hitman, Mass Effect Andromeda, Dishonored 2, Final Fantasy XV and a new Battlefield title.

But which are you looking forward to most? And does Microsoft’s 2016 lineup have potential to be even stronger than this year’s? Let us know in the comments below.
