Metal Gear Solid 5: TPP PS4 sold fewer copies in Japan week one than Metal Gear Rising

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain sold 293,652 copies on PS4 and 117,547 copies on PS3 in Japan over its launch week, data published by Media Create has revealed.

This compares to 465,000 copies of Metal Gear Solid 4 back in 2008, and more recently 308,681 copies of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance on PS3 in February 2013.

Last year’s Ground Zeroes managed 119,615 copies on PS3 and 91,821 copies on PS4.

According to Media Create, PS4 hardware sales were boosted significantly by Metal Gear Solid 5, from 18,539 to 54,494 units.

Famitsu’s figures are considerably higher, putting MGS5 on PS4 at 315,288, and the PS3 version at 157,605 copies.
