Metal Gear Solid 4 on PlayStation 3 is finally set to receive Trophy support, according to Hideo Kojima in an interview with Famitsu (via Andriasang).

Japanese gamers will be able to buy a brand new budget version of Metal Gear Solid 4 in August, which will come complete with Trophy support. Existing owners of the game will be able to download a patch to add the functionality to the game – there’s currently no word on when the update will be available in Europe.

Metal Gear Solid 4 launched back in June 2008, followed closely by the introduction of PlayStation trophies in July. The game earned an excellent 9/10 in our Metal Gear Solid 4 review.

This is great news for MGS fans, but Konami and Kojima Productions have certainly taken their time.

Is it merely a coincidence that the news came on the same day we revealed that hit novel series 50 Shades of Grey started out as Metal Gear Solid fan-fiction, 50 Shades of Gray Fox? We’ll let you decide.
