Mercenary Kings comes to PS4 on April 2

Mercenary Kings, an old-school run-and-gun platformer, will launch for PS4 on April 2, developer Tribute Games has announced.

The games sees players choosing between Empress and King, two members of the elite squad known as the Mercenary Kings. Dropped on Mandragora Island, players are tasked with one mission: rescue the brilliant Dr. James Neil from the forces of C.L.A.W. (Cyber Loyalist Active Weapons) and prevent them from using the Mandrake Formula to conquer the globe.

Whilst Mercenary Kings looks like a game from the ’80s and ’90s, it has been enhanced with what the developer calls a deep weapon and item crafting system. There are more than 300 gun parts to mix and match, making it possible to enhance your weapon’s magazine capacity or forge an elemental blade that can freeze your enemy.

Co-op multiplayer is also included, as are various connectivity options for PS4 and PS Vita, though we’re yet to hear about these in any detail.
