The highly anticipated Season 2.5 update for Marvel Rivals is right on the horizon and is set to bring lots of new content. Following the success of Season 2: Hellfire Gala, which included the powerful Emma Frost and the vivid Krakoa map, this mid-season update promises to keep players engaged with new heroes, skins, and gameplay upgrades

The update will bring in significant balancing adjustments, including nerfs and buffs, as well as the introduction of Ultron, which will offer a new layer of strategy to the battlefield. However, as expectation grows, so does fear about the update’s impact.

Marvel Rivals has a history of significant patches, with Season 2 being particularly huge due to the introduction of new assets and anti-modding procedures that necessitated the re-download of substantial portions of the game. Season 2.5 is no exception, with early reports indicating a gigantic file size, eliciting worries from users with limited storage or sluggish internet connections.

Marvel Rivals Season 2.5 update file size revealed to require a full re-install

The Marvel Rivals Season 2.5 update, scheduled for release on May 30, 2025, has sparked heated debate among players due to its large file size. According to trusted leaker X0X_LEAK, the update will take around 59.6 GB to download, bringing the overall game size to around 73.7 GB.

This enormous file size is due to NetEase’s practice of overwriting most game files with new ones, which was also used in the Season 2 update, which required a 49.1 GB download. Many users expressed surprise at the enormous update size, with one user jokingly asking, “Is it over chat?”

The feeling mirrored sentiments to the Season 2 update, in which fans complained about the inconvenience of big downloads, particularly for those with limited bandwidth. However, excitement remains for the update’s content, which includes the new hero Ultron and the Arakko map, which corresponds to the mutant-themed Hellfire Gala storyline.

While the update promises new content, the large file size remains a sore point. Players love the game’s free-to-play approach and fresh improvements, but many are concerned about logistical issues. For many, the prospect of jumping into Season 2.5 is dampened by the hefty download, indicating a trade-off between content updates and accessibility.
