With millions of players, and a bunch of bots, Marvel Rivals is already a massive success. However, with millions of players comes millions of player requests, and many players are hounding the developers for the addition of Role Queue.
Following the release of Season 1’s new heroes and the news that the game will receive a new hero every month and a half, players have expressed their desire to have a Role Queue feature added to the game. Game director Guangyun Chen has explained that’s not going to happen.
Marvel Rivals will never get a Role Queue
In an interview with Metro, Chen explained that the game won’t have a Role Queue as it disincentives experimentation within the multiplayer game. In other hero shooters, such as Overwatch, the Role Queue forces teams to abide by specific compositions of roles, but NetEase wants players to continue searching for their own ways to win.

Chen explains that this allows for a “Marvel-style approach” where players can win with the most unlikely crossovers with enough skill and strategy. Instead of the game forcing players into a strategic corner, they have the freedom to find it themselves.
“It’s all about giving the players the freedom to experiment and find their unique strategies, as we’ve seen in many games and streams,” Chen explained. “Post-launch, people have been exploring an indefinite amount of team compositions, and we’re excited about what’s coming, we believe no role queue will lead to a richer gaming experience for everyone.”
The game director explained that NetEase wants to offer freedom through “team comp possibilities”, “hero design” and “team-up mechanics”. While it may be a bit more overwhelming than being forced to pick from a specific role, it also means that players are encouraged to keep finding new ways to win.
