Marvel Rivals turns Deadpool into a tank, leaving fans confused

Even though Season 6 of Marvel Rivals is set to come out in mid-January 2026, its hero has already been revealed. NetEase confirmed Deadpool as the next hero, and he was already added to the game. However, Merc With the Mouth is currently locked, and he will be playable once the new season comes out.

Initially, Deadpool was a Duelist, which made sense considering that he excels at dealing damage. However, the latest Marvel Rivals update turned the popular character into a tank, as he is now located in the Vanguard section of heroes. Deadpool’s role hasn’t been fully confirmed yet, but we might know what’s going on.

Is Deadpool a tank in Marvel Rivals?

For now, Deadpool is a tank. His role was changed with the winter update, which was very surprising. The hero balance is one of the biggest problems in the game, as NetEase has released too many Duelists. Having this many damage dealers can be fun for arcade modes, but it’s quite frustrating in ranked gameplay, as the most effective team composition has two heroes in every role.

Fortunately, there is still hope. The latest season of Marvel Rivals brought Rogue, who is a tank, and Deadpool may have this role as well.

As of Season 5.5, the hero shooter has 45 heroes, and 23 of them are damage dealers. Adding another tank would be beneficial for the game’s balance, although we’ll have to wait for a few more weeks to find out Deadpool’s true role in Marvel Rivals.

For all we know, NetEase might just be trolling us by switching Deadpool’s role. He will likely become a Strategist soon, which will further confuse the community. There is also a chance that Wade Wilson will be capable of performing in every role, making him the first hybrid hero in the game.

Fortunately, Season 6 is just a few weeks away, and it’s just a matter of time before we get more details about the upcoming hero.
