Mario Kart 8 will release on Wii U in spring 2014, Nintendo has announced.
The racing game was revealed during Nintendo’s pre-E3 Nintendo Direct, along with the first info and gameplay footage.
The game appears to share some similarities with 3DS predecessor Mario Kart 7, with players able to fly gliders and race underwater, and sees the return of bikes from Mario Kart Wii.
A new anti-gravity mechanic also means Mario and pals can race along the surface of walls and travel upside-down.
Nintendo promises that Mario Kart 8’s online multiplayer will be the best in the series so far, too.
More on Mario Kart 8, including the first trailer and screenshots, are expected to be released later today.
