According to Japanese sales figures reported by Media Create, Super Mario Galaxy has sold 251,000 units during its first week on sale. More surprising is the success of Namco Bandai’s Xbox 360 exclusive Ace Combat 6, which shot to week one sales of 77,000 units and second place in the chart.

Two further Xbox 360 titles also made the Japanese Top 30: The Idolmaster at No.21 and Earth Defence Force 3 at No.29. For comparison, five Wii titles made the Top 30, but not a single PS3 game charted.

Given an install base approaching four million units, Many had predicted stronger week one sales for Mario Galaxy, with the game now needing strong legs in order to match sales of previous Wii hits, Wii Sports and Wii Play.
