The NPD Group reports that for the month of March 2010 (tracked February 28 through April 3), the Wii was the best-selling home console platform in the US with 557,500 units. This compared favourably to the Xbox 360’s 338,400 units and the PS3’s 313,900 units.
NPD analyst Anita Frazier commented: “Wii experienced its best non-holiday sales month (hardware) since March 2009. Compared to February 2010, on an average sales/week basis, Wii is the only hardware platform to increase sales velocity over February.”
The PS3 also posted its eighth consecutive month of year-over-year increases.
In the handheld market the Nintendo DS remained the clear victor, shifting 700,800 units compared to only 119,900 PSP units.
