March 2010 NPDs: God of War 3 tops one million

According to sales data published by The NPD Group for the month of March 2010 (tracked February 28 through April 3), Sony’s PS3 exclusive God of War 3 was the month’s best selling single SKU title, moving an impressive 1.1 million copies.

The long-awaited third chapter in the PlayStation action trilogy outsold launch figures of God of War 2 by 32 per cent.

It was a huge month for three other titles too: Pokemon SoulSilver and HeartGold shifted 1.02 million and 761,200 copies respectively; Final Fantasy XIII managed 828,200 on PS3 and 493,900 on Xbox 360; and EA’s Bad Company 2 performed admirably with 825,500 copies on Xbox 360 and 451,200 copies on PS3.

Final Fantasy XIII recorded the best launch for any entry in the franchise, considerably outpacing the PS2 exclusive Final Fantasy XII’s 896,000 copies.

Elsewhere New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Wii Fit Plus continued to chip away, shifting 457,400 and 429,600 copies respectively.
