UPDATE: 1080p TV owners will also see improved visuals when playing Mantis Burn Racing on a PS4 Pro thanks to super-sampling, tech director Mark Williams has told VideoGamer.com.

“1080p users will still see much crisper images – we will still render at 4k, and the high quality video scaler will reduce this to 1080p, but retain a lot of the detail that will have been lost if we’d rendered straight to 1080p,” he said. “It is effectively significantly enhanced anti-aliasing – super-sampling instead of multi-sampling.”

ORIGINAL REPORT: Top-down racer Mantis Burn Racing will support a native 4K resolution and run at 60fps on PS4 Pro, developer VooFoo Studios has announced.

The game is the third title confirmed to include a native 4K option on PS4 Pro, joining The Last of Us Remastered and The Elder Scrolls Online. Most other games seem to be adopting Sony’s special ‘Checkerboard Rendering’ upscaling technique to achieve 4K-quality visuals which, while apparently impressive, isn’t quite the same as a native resolution.

“With Mantis Burn Racing we’re delivering full native 4K whilst maintaining 60FPS without using checkerboard techniques or having to reduce any of our effects,” said VooFoo’s technology director Mark Williams.

As a result of the increased resolution, each player will also have a full 1080p view of the race when playing in 4-player split-screen. You can (kind of) see how it compares in the image below.
