Manor Lords is going to be seeing a huge overhaul in the coming weeks. The main change is the shift over to Unreal Engine 5 which is set to bring in plenty of performance expectations. Beyond that, new means of resource gathering are in-bound. Fishing, new ways to farm, and plenty more.

Fishing ponds have been “requested a lot” by Manor Lords fans, and so the developer has spoken. Greg Styczeń has announced that the next update will herald fishing ponds as a new way to earn food resources.

That’s not all that it’s going to bring though. Packaged alongside the fishing update, we’re going to see an graphics overhaul and port to Unreal Engine 5, which should see not only much higher fidelity textures and lighting, but also performance balancing too. That said, it’s not the case that Manor Lords is particularly difficult to run on more mediocre hardware set-ups at the moment.

The move over to UE5 also comes with a bit of a warning that Slavic Magic is being “careful about enabling any performance heavy features in Unreal Engine 5” despite the fact that “the resolution & sharpness of the new Virtual Shadow Maps system is really impressive.” What’s more is that the update is going to be made entirely optional, so you can keep at the older version of the game just fine.

Further hints about the upcoming patch include a reference to prototyped mushrooms, which were dropped as they were too similar to other resources, and that a butcher is on the priority list to provide meat.

In terms of when exactly the Unreal Engine 5 update is going to land for Manor Lords – the developer has suggested an estimate that the “current plan is a few weeks,” which is of course pretty vague.
