Tomb Raider’s audition process was shrouded in such secrecy that Camilla Luddington had ‘no idea’ she was auditioning for the role of Lara Croft.

“I’m not sure what it was they saw in me [that] they thought made me right for the role,” Luddington told The Metro, while speaking about her role as Lara in next week’s Tomb Raider reboot.

“I am quite adventurous, though, and I probably share Lara’s confidence and her devil-may-care attitude a little.”

“The audition process was incredibly hush-hush and I had no idea I was trying out for Tomb Raider,” she continues. “But I remember reading the breakdown for the role and thinking: ‘She kind of reminds me of Lara Croft.’ So I went to the reading dressed in shorts and boots.”

The upcoming game marks the first time a Hollywood actress has been used to play the character in a Tomb Raider title, with developer Crystal Dynamics using motion-capture technology to mimic Luddington’s performance in the game.

“Lara blinks as many times in a minute as I do. That’s how detailed it is.”

Tomb Raider releases on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on Tuesday. Yesterday, VideoGamer.com uncovered the first suspected info on the game’s upcoming DLC.
