LucasArts and Day 1 Studios have today announced Fracture, a futuristic third-person action title in which players will utilise Terrain Deformation to reshape the landscape on which they battle.

Set in the year 2161, the player will take on the role of Mason Briggs, a demolitions expert fighting for the Atlantic Alliance – the side that relies on cybernetic enhancement. The Atlantic Alliance is pitted against the genetically enhanced soldiers of the Pacifican army.

In order to win the battle players will have to utilise next-gen technology known as Terrain Deformation. Players are equipped with an arsenal of futuristic weaponry to strategically reshape their surroundings on the fly.

Some of the weaponry Briggs has at his disposal includes a tectonic grenade which forces the ground to blast upwards, alt-fire on his rocket launcher to create enormous craters to burrow under walls, and a vortex grenade which will devastate the surrounding enemies.

Fracture is scheduled for release on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in summer 2008.
