Limbo creator Playdead has said it is open the idea of putting out its next title on multiple platforms, but isn’t ready to commit to anything concrete at this time.
Speaking to Joystiq, Playdead CEO Dino Patti confirmed that Limbo remains XBLA “exclusive for life”, but what comes next isn’t necessarily going to be tied to a single platform.
“I can’t tell much, but I can tell you that if you liked Limbo, it’ll definitely be for you,” he said. “The gameplay style you’ll really like. You’ll feel it’s the same team who made it, but everything will be changed.”
He added: “We are open for everything. To be honest, we want as many people to play our games as possible. If we end up going exclusive, we may do it for various reasons, but we just want as many people to play the game as possible.”
Limbo is certainly a feather in Xbox LIVE Arcade’s cap and the follow-up will no doubt have many interested parties, but developer Playdead will have to carefully consider its options. As an exclusive release on XBLA, Limbo was able to launch on the back of considerable marketing through the Summer of Arcade promotion – many a great game has flopped so it would be naive to ignore the importance of this support.
