SEGA’s Yakuza series is continuing its trend of wild spin-offs with a new pirate adventure starring everyone’s favourite eyepatch-wearing madman, Goro Majima. However, it turns out the game’s existence was leaked months ago, but no one believed it was real.

Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza leaks

As it turns out, the upcoming Yakuza spin-off was leaked numerous times across the internet by multiple sources. Across sites such as 4Chan and Chinese message boards, the new Majima pirate adventure was teased and even fully exposed, but the game’s wackiness led many to doubt the leaks.

One well-regarded leaker known as “Diandong Langke Lu Xun” teased the game earlier this month with an image of a dragon on a One Piece-style wanted poster. The image was accompanied with the text “No Change in Hairstyle This Year”, referring to the controversial change of Kazuma Kiryu’s hairstyle in Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth.

The leaker used the One Piece wanted poster design to tease the Yakuza Pirate game.

However, the same was leaked even before then. Way back in May 2024, as shared by Jawmuncher, a 4Chan post detailed the exact content of the game. Dubbed “Yakuza leak project: Madlantis”, an infinitely cooler name than Pirate Yakuza, the leak revealed pretty much everything we know about the game today.

Even more leaks regarding the title have made the rounds online, but very few of them were believed. Despite the Yakuza series having a Zombie spin-off on the PS3 and even becoming a turn-based RPG, fans just didn’t believe the existence of a pirate-themed spin-off canonically set after Infinite Wealth.

Alright, let’s be fair

Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza does look like an amazing time, but its a pitch that is pretty wild to make without some evidence of its existence. While we are so, so glad this game exists, we can’t imagine anyone believing it unless it came with image or video evidence.

Following the last two decades of amazing Yakuza games, Pirate Yakuza looks like another brilliant entry. And who doesn’t want a great pirate game? Sea of Thieves? Skull and Bones? Wait, scratch that last one.

Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza launches on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series and PC on February 28, 2025.
