Sega has announced that Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, the eighth mainline entry in the FKA Yakuza series, will be arriving in January 2024.

The news was announced as part of developer studio’s Ryu Ga Gotoku’s Like A Dragon Direct broadcast, which held a Western-specific version for the first time for the English-speaking fans. The news also came along with a pair of new trailers for the highly anticipated game, which will not only see the return of Yakuza 7‘s hero Ichiban Kasuga, but he’ll also be teaming up with former series lead Kauma Kiryu, who’ll have just featured in the Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name spin-off this coming November.

Here’s all the info you need to know.

Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth release date

Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth (AKA Yakuza 8) will launch on January 26 2024 for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC.

Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth trailers

The pair of new trailers tell us a little more about the story of Infinite Wealth, as well the first gameplay from the latest installment in the long-running series. Of course, the trademark mix of crime drama and outright craziness is intact and wacky as ever, as it seems Ichiban is contacted by his long-lost Mother, who invites him to Hawaii to reunite. As you probably expect, it’s not quite as simple as that, and when our hero lands, he’s soon diverted and waking up naked on Honolulu Beach as we saw in the previous trailer.

Thankfully, he’s not alone – as he soon runs into Kiryu, who’s not only had something of a makeover – check out that grey hair – but tragically also appears to be suffering from cancer. We’ll let you watch the whole thing for some of the best surprises, but thanks to a bunch of returning faces it looks like we’re getting a crossover of the old and the new, as Kiryu’s crew teams up with Kasuga’s to take down the Hawaiian Mafia.

Meanwhile, the gameplay trailer confirms the return of the turn-based battle system introduced in the seventh game, but with a cool twist as for example one of Kiryu’s powers – Fighting Spirit – lets you attack in real time. On top of that, there’s naturally a bunch of new jobs (classes) for you in this new location, including Samurai, Desperado, Geo Dancer, Pyro Dancer, Action Star and even Housekeeper. Yup, that’s a Like A Dragon game alright.

Of course, Poundmates make their return, with loads of new allies for you to call upon in a pinch – including plenty of nods to the series’ past. It’s like a who’s who (or what) of cameos. Building your bond with your party will naturally be important, and there’s a ton of new minigames including a Crazy Taxi homage on a bicycle called, naturally, Crazy Bike. (And yes, karaoke makes its return, naturally.) Check out the trailer for yourself below.

Like A Dragon Infinite arrives on January 26, 2024 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC.
