In news that has been a long time coming, (calm down Duke Nukem fans, still nothing for you yet) Activision and Raven Software have finally released some details about the up and coming Quake IV.

It seems that the old enemies from the second game, the Stroggs, are back. After being decimated by a lone trooper in the first assault on their planet, they are attempting to rebuild their army for a counter attack. Fortunately for you, (and Earth of course) their defences are still down, leaving room for another full attack to wipe them out once and for all.

You take the role of Matthew Kane, an elite member of Rhino squad who has been sent off in the first invasion wave. Another one man army, I’m guessing, though he will have support. For starters their will be plenty of weapons to play with and for the first time in a Quake game, vehicles to drive too. It’s also going to be interesting to see how you fit into a full scale invasion and what kind of assistance you’ll get from the entire army at your side. Should we expect some squad based elements too? Only time will tell.

In the meantime check out the new screenshot Activision have released. Just the one screenshot, mind… teasing gits.
