LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game is to be released on the 3DS, Disney has announced.

The game is due in May, alongside the previously announced versions for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and DS, PSP and PC.

As well as delivering a fully 3D experience to gamers, the 3DS version will include Pirate Duel, an exclusive mode that lets 3DS owners battle each other using the handheld’s Street Pass functionality. Participating in duels will earn Play Coins that can be used to unlock new characters.

“The Nintendo 3DS lets players experience a LEGO game like never before, and allows us to add new depth to the Pirates of the Caribbean universe,” said Adam Sussman, senior vice president of publishing, Disney Interactive Studios. “The game incorporates new features such as the Pirate Duel system and high resolution 3D effects to deliver fun and clever gameplay fans of the LEGO series expect.”

LEGO Pirates will feature more than 70 characters, action adventure gameplay and hilarious LEGO cutscenes. The game will hit stores in May, simultaneously on all platforms, to coincide with the release of the Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides motion picture.
