Square Enix has announced Nosgoth, a new free-to-play multiplayer title set in the Legacy of Kain universe.

Currently in development for PC by Psyonix, Nosgoth is described as a “bloodthirsty” multiplayer title that sees humans compete with vampires in a “dark fantasy world”.

Despite being a free-to-play title, Psyonix is adamant that the game is not pay-to-win, stating that one of its “key goals has been to create a fair experience that doesn’t penalise players who don’t spend money in the game”.

Players aren’t required to have played previous Legacy of Kain titles to enjoy Nosgoth either, Psyonix claims, saying that “Nosgoth is set on its own distinct era of the Legacy of Kain timeline and knowledge of prior events, while empowering, is by no means necessary. All you need to know is that the two factions involved – Humans and Vampires – are locked in a bloody struggle to control the land of Nosgoth, a land they both share and call home.”

A release date for the game has yet to be revealed but players can sign up to a closed beta by heading through to the game’s official site.
