Former Gears of War designer Cliff Bleszinski has announced that his studio Boss Key Productions is shutting down.

Writing in a statement on Twitter overnight, Bleszinski confirmed that the developer is 'effectively no more,' and that he's now decided to take time away from game design but hopes to 'make something new again someday.'

The news comes following a trouble period for Boss Key, after its gravity-defying shooter LawBreakers failed to gather steam following its launch on PlayStation 4 and PC in 2017. The studio recently announced 80s-flavoured battle royale title Radical Heights, which Bleszinski described as being 'too little too late.'

Bleszinski also last month accused Epic Games of pinching Boss Key staff on Twitter, after the studio's co-founder, Arjan Brussee, moved to Epic a few months back.

'LawBreakers was a great game that unfortunately failed to gain traction, and, in a last ditch attempt we scrambled to do our take on the huge battle royale genre with Radical Heights which was well received, however, it was too little too late,' said Bleszinski.

Despite the studio's closure, it has been confirmed that servers for Radical Heights will 'remain up for the near future.'
