Activision boss Bobby Kotick has told The Financial Times that over half of the Xbox LIVE subscriber base does so primarily in order to play Call of Duty games on the service.
“We’ve heard that 60 per cent of Microsoft’s subscribers are principally on LIVE because of Call of Duty,” Kotick told The Financial Times. “We don’t really participate financially in that income stream. We would really like to be able to provide much more value to those millions of players playing on Live, but it’s not our network.”
It’s almost as if these 60 per cent are paying a subscription for Call of Duty, something Kotick has previously expressed an interest in. Only last month he told the Wall Street Journal that he’d love a subscription-based Call of Duty.
