Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is one of the most-loved games in the the series. Ditching stealth for incredible sword play and combat, its fast, frenetic gameplay and glorious visuals still hold up so well today. Sadly, though, those in Japan aren’t able to play it – at least not on PC.
The game has never been on Steam and, up until last month where it featured on GOG for one hour or so being taken down by Konami, hadn’t been on there either. At the time, in a statement to GameSpark, Konami said “There was a setting error on the GOG side, so the game was temporarily available for purchase in some Asian regions. We apologize for any confusion.” So, will PC players in Japan ever be able to experience it? Konami, in the recent Metal Gear Production Hotline, finally addressed the issue – and apologised for the whole ordeal.
“Firstly, we owe all our Japanese fans of MGR: Revengeance a big apology for that,” said Jiro Oishi, Metal Gear series producer. “This release was only planned in North America, and so was not supposed to be available in Japan, but due to a technical issue, it was briefly available for purchase before it was fixed.”
He continued: “So, we’re very sorry for getting people’s hopes up. Though MGR: Revengeance isn’t a mainline title, it is still an excellent game, and exactly the sort of exciting title that developers PlatinumGames are known for. I was very involved in the promotions, so I’m very attached to it myself, and I hope we can release it for Japanese players, but we don’t have any news on that front for now.”
Elsewhere, the team has revealed that they in the final stages of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater production, although they have not yet confirmed when the game will be released. The Production Hotline is an attempt to bridge the gap between fans of the series and the new team working on remastering Hideo Kojima’s brilliant games – and they are largely doing a fantastic job. In the latest episode, the team team also talked about the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection: Vol 1 launch, admitting it was ‘rough’. They aare hoping come Vo. 2, which has now been confirmed, they don’t make the same mistakes.
