Konami has refused to comment on the absence of a Wii version of PES 2009 in the game’s official announcement.

This morning PES 2009, the follow-up to the disappointing PES 2008, was officially announced for Xbox 360, PS3, PC, PS2 and PSP with an Autumn release date.

There is no mention, however, of a Wii version. When contacted this afternoon, a Konami spokesperson told VideoGamer.com: “We cannot comment on anything other than is in the release.”

Given the positive reaction to the Wii version of PES 2008, which is considered by some fans to be the best version of the game, we can’t imagine PES 2009 won’t make an appearance at some point. For now though, Wii owning footy fans will have to hold their breath.

More as we get it.
