Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater finally has a release date. In what has seemed an age for MGS fans, Konami finally revealed the upcoming remake will be arriving on August 28, 2025. However, it hasn’t taken long to understand why, potentially, the company has decided on that date.

After missing Snake Eater’s anniversary last year, the upcoming remake is targeting a new date that only fans will truly recognise. Is it on purpose? Who knows? But it’s pretty cool nonetheless.

What’s so special about the Metal Gear Solid Delta release date?

It turns out the Operation Snake Eater mission, which was kicked off after the disasterous Virtuous Mission, kicked off on August 30. Going back in time, using my trust calendar, we can see that August 30th 1964 actually landed on a Sunday, which would mean August 28th would have been in the same week.

Of course, no company ever releases games on a weekend, and barely any release on Friday. However, Konami has targeted the closest possible release date to the actual Operation Snake Eater for the upcoming remake which is fun for fans.

Now, whether Konami meant to do this or not remains to be seen, but it’s certainly an incredible coincidence that they’ve chosen the week that Snake Eater began as the week to launch the new game. We may have waited a while for a release date, but the latest Delta trailer certainly did not disappoint. Blending plenty of gameplay with remastered cutscenes, we finally got a good look at The COBRA unit, which – as expected, stayed true to the original Kojima designs.

We also got to see the Unreal Engine 5 flex its muscle a bit more – with plenty of explosions and in-game action, compared to the more docile parts players have seen during the demo segments. With brand-new controls turning Snake more into Rambo, this could be a sign of the game’s slight turn towards an action focus.

While all eyes are on the release date, there is some hope that a demo of sorts will be available for those unfamiliar to try the game. Plus, speaking as a MGS fan, it would certainly tide us over until the game comes out. For those new to Delta, Konami has reworked the entire of Kojima’s original 2004 masterpiece, albeit with a few tweaks.

You’ll be able to choose from the traditional, over-head camera, or opt for the newer 3rd-person view more akin to The Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes. Add the mix a hyper-realistic damage and go system, not to mention improved enemy AI, and you have all the ingredients for a very special tribute to one of the greatest games ever made.
