Konami general manager Peter Stone has revealed the publisher is delighted by the early success of PES 2010, pointing to improvements made to the title over last year’s effort as the reason for its strong sales.

“We are delighted to see PES 2010 top the chart against some incredibly strong competition,” said Stone.

“With the likes of Forza 3 and WWE Smackdown released on the same day, it is great to see our revitalised and much improved crowd-pleaser emerge triumphant. PES is a key series for us, and we have high hopes for the coming year.”

Konami previously revealed that the game’s European launch was supported with a shipment of three million units of the game to retail. First week sales in the UK saw the PS3 version come out on top, claiming 66 per cent of its overall sales.
