Speaking to Japanese video game magazine Famitsu, partially translated by Kotaku, Hideo Kojima has revealed the PS3’s Blu-ray disc isn’t big enough to house Metal Gear Solid 4 as he intended.
“For us, we’re not still not satisfied with the quality we can do. You know, there’s not capacity space.
“There’s not enough space at all. (laughs) …There’s not enough space. We always talked about where to cut and what to compress,” explained the Metal Gear creator.
What exactly had to be cut or compressed isn’t clear. Last week Kojima Productions producer Ryan Payton revealed that there wasn’t enough space on the Blu-ray disc for all the language tracks, but the new comments by Kojima suggest further cuts had to be made. We’re assuming the disc will be packed full of Full HD video and uncompressed audio, both likely to need huge amounts of disc space, so we’re hoping this is the area in which Kojima has made cuts.
Metal Gear Solid 4 is scheduled for release in North America and Europe on June 12.
