The Kojima Productions saga took another twist yesterday when Metal Gear Solid voice actor Akio Otsuka tweeted that the studio had been dissolved.
Otsuka is reported to have used the term “kaisan” which means “dissolved” or “break-up”.
“Kojima Productions got dissolved,2 Otsuka wrote, “and due to the team’s hard effort, the game is just about finished. This is no exaggeration, but it’s bound to be a supreme masterpiece! I can’t help it if I want to say, ‘I kept you waiting.’ (lol) Even if this is the last time… MGS lives forever!”
Otsuka is best-known for his work as the various Snake characters throughout the Metal Gear Solid series.
Rumours of Kojima Productions’ disbandment have been widespread for months, fuelled by the studio’s logo being removed from the Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain’s box art and game trailers.
A Konami representative declined to comment when contacted by VideoGamer.com.
Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain will launch September 1 on PS4, Xbox One, PS3 and Xbox 360. You can pre-order the game now from Amazon. A Windows PC version will arrive at a later date.
