The game is set in the early half of the 14th century, where a quarrel over the succession to the French throne escalates into what history defines and the Hundred Years’ War. Bladestorm is said to bring life to war-torn Europe with a rich tapestry of legendary characters, including Joan of Arc and the Black Prince.

Bladestorm puts players in the role of a rogue commander with direct control of mercenary units. Players will be thrust into dynamic and ever-changing conflicts and must adjust strategies to deal with the changing battlefield. As commander, players will have a vast array of troops to deploy, including infantry, archers and cavalry, plus specialised units such as elephants, cannoniers, and castle siege specialists.

Koei says that the new game engine is something only possible thanks to the power of the next-gen hardware, with armies colliding on the battlefield at an unprecedented scale. Although not specifying any numbers, expect the screen to the packed full of troops.

Using a Free Mission system, players will be able to align their troops with the French or English on a battle-by-battle basis, giving an unparalleled freedom to take on different assignments, and to experience the battle from both sides.

As you progress through the missions, the you must establish a reputation as a dependable and capable leader. The more missions you complete the more highly regarded you will become, and thus you’ll attract more skilful troops to employ and open more difficult missions.

Bladestorm: The Hundred Years’ War is in development at Koei’s internal Omega Force studio and will be released for the PlayStation 3 in 2007.
