PS4 launch title Knack will be playable after a mandatory 10 second install, which will begin to be cached as soon as the Blu-ray disc is placed in the console, PS4 lead architect Mark Cerny has told Kotaku.

After the initial 10 second caching, the game will be playable but data will continue to be installed as you play. Eventually the game’s 37GB will be moved over to the PS4 hard drive.

Cerny also noted that Sony had considered allowing cached/installed game data to be automatically deleted after a period of inactivity, but in the end it was decided that gamers would feel “blindsided” so it was deemed best to leave such data management down to the user.

Battlefield 4 has an install size of 35GB, while rival shooters Call of Duty: Ghosts and Killzone: Shadow Fall are said to require 49GB and 39.7GB respectively.

PS4 launches in the US this Friday, November 15, but not until November 29 in the UK.
