Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards has dropped today on Switch Online, as part of the Expansion Pack subscription.

Nintendo released the game for the Nintendo 64 in 2000. It was the first Kirby game in 3-D, except it wasn’t. It was what we would call 2.5-D, I suppose; its gentle platforming unfolds on a side-scrolling plane.

Check out the trailer below:

The description reads:

“Venture beyond Dream Land. Stop the hungering Dark Matter. The Kirby 64™: The Crystal Shards game, originally released for the Nintendo 64 system, is available on May 20th for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members.”

It is an absolute must for Kirby fans, and an intriguing curio for those who recently played Kirby and the Forgotten Land. I recently played that game and became quite obsessed with the strange pink blob. In a feature that exploring the game’s demo, I said:

“But the abiding feeling of this new adventure is ease, and gentle experimentation. It’s developed by HAL Laboratory, but so hard-wearing and elasticated is its hero, and so pleasurably safe is its play that it could equally bear the name of Durex.”

Needless to say, I’ll be hopping into Kirby 64 over the weekend. And so should you.
