THQ Nordic has announced that it has acquired the rights to fantasy-flavoured RPG Kingdoms of Amalur.
Presumably this means we can expect some sort of new entry in the series, or at the very least a remastered version of Kingdoms of Amalur. THQ Nordic isn't say much right now either way, simply confirming it has bagged the rights of the IP from 38 Studios.
Kingdoms of Amalur was released on PlayStation 3, PC, and Xbox 360 back in 2012, and features some of the usual fantasy tropes including humans and various races of Elves. The game was described by 38 Studios' Curt Schilling a mashup of God of War and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and to be fair, that more or less sounds right on the money.
It wasn't actually a bad game, although it sadly failed to pack much of a punch in terms of commercial success, and so a sequel never materialised. Kingdoms of Amalur went on to sell around 1.2 million copies worldwide.
The game is notable as the being the only project released by 38 Studios before the company filed for bankruptcy in 2012.
