Kinect for Xbox 360 sold more than one million units in the first 10 days since launch and is on track to beat a target of five million units by the year end, Microsoft has said.

“It’s a strong start,” Don Mattrick, president of the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft, told Reuters on Monday. “Consumers are loving it.”

“We are appreciative of the response we have seen from consumers that has culminated in sales of more than 1 million units in the first 10 days on the market for Kinect for Xbox 360,” said Mattrick in Microsoft’s related press release. “This is a great start to the holiday season, and we will continue to work with our retailer partners to keep pace with high demand and deliver against our plan to sell more than 5 million Kinect sensors worldwide by the end of this year.”

Kinect for Xbox 360 is available now priced £129.99

We’d usually assume a launch to be front loaded, but given the ‘sold-out’ nature of Kinect’s opening 10 days and the imminent holiday shopping season – particularly Thanksgiving’s Black Friday in the US – Microsoft has good reason to believe sales will continue to hold strong.
