Killer Instinct Season 2 launches today on Xbox One, offering eight new characters beginning with TJ Combo and Maya, Microsoft Studios and new developer Iron Galaxy have announced.
Surprisingly, however, the new season has been given a bit of a graphical facelift, including a bump in resolution from 720p to 900p, according to fighting game championship CEO Gaming’s creator Alex Jebailey.
You can download Season 2 for free and play the full game using a free rotating character each week – TJ Combo is the first. With your free character you can play all game modes, including online multiplayer matches against the complete Killer Instinct community.
If you’ve already got Season 1 this version will update automatically to offer all of Season 2’s features including:
Eight New Characters – Both Original and Returning: TJ Combo and Maya are joined by the cybernetic dinosaur Riptor and the blazing human effigy Cinder as playable characters this season. These fan favourites will be joined by all new characters including an ancient Babylonian sorcerer, an avenging ghost, a battle-hardened war golem, and more.
New Interface: Navigating and interacting with the game is said to be more intuitive thanks to faster character access, better stat tracking, and a new experience system.
New Moves and Rebalance: The entire Season 1 cast has been rebalanced for Season 2, adding new techniques and abilities to their move sets.
Enhanced Combo System: The new “aerial recapture” option gives select characters the ability to catch an opponent in the air and slam them back to the ground to continue their combo.
New Progression System: The ranking and levelling system for Season 2 now allows players to earn costumes, accessories and other badges of honour faster than before.
In addition to the free download there are two bundles available offering access to all characters as they are released.
