Karaoke for Xbox 360 will launch on Xbox LIVE this holiday season, Microsoft has announced.
The pay-to-play service – access to the entire library of over 8,000 songs is available for blocks of 2, 6 or 24 hours by redeeming Microsoft Points – offers scrolling lyrics on screen while the player avatar performs the song on stage complete with stage props, backup band and audience.
Songs are streamed immediately and can be queued up in-game or using SmartGlass integration. There’s also options to key change and play a lead vocal track to help sing less familiar songs.
The service will also be compatible with a variety of microphone devices, including the Xbox 360 Headset, Xbox Wireless Microphone or an Xbox 360 compatible USB microphone. There’s no mention of Kinect support, but presumably it will work.
A selection of free sample songs – that will change frequently – will be available.
