Update: Vostock Games, itself formed of former S.T.A.L.K.E.R. creators, has claimed that West Games is fraudulently claiming to be made up of the developers of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Metro.

Vostock is working on Survarium, a successor to S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

“We have contacted GSC’s lawyers regarding this fraudulent claim of being the developers of Stalker and Metro Last Light,” Vostock PR manager Joe Mullin wrote on the survarium forums. “Please do all you can do ensure people know these claims are false.”

Original Story:

Areal, described as the definitive spiritual successor to the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, looks set to be funded on Kickstarter after gaining $20,000 of its low $50,000 target in just a matter of hours.

Developer West Games is formed largely by former senior GSC Game World staff members, the people that developed the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Series.

West Games founder Eugene Kim was directing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Online’s development at GSC Game World.

Areal promises to feature a massive and detailed open world environment that is varied and colourful, even though it’s set in a post-apocalyptic setting. The game depicts a future civilisation devastated by an unearthly material called Metamorphite, which has infected the whole world.

Gameplay is said to be a non-linear shooter, and we’re promised versions for PS4, Xbox One, Wii U, Windows, Mac and Linux.

The game is also in a pretty advanced pre-alpha state, which is why only $50,000 is needed to realise the base release goal.

However, a range of stretch goals have been detailed, ranging from single-player additions at $200,000, a multiplayer mode at $500,000 and much more.
